This poem is a deeply poignant lament on the tragedy of Partition and the atrocities inflicted upon the women of Punjab. The poet, Amrita Pritam, invokes the legendary Sufi poet Waris Shah to rise from his grave and write about this new devastation of Punjab, where millions of daughters are weeping today and the Chenab river runs red with blood. It is a timeless masterpiece depicting the pain of communal violence and the collapse of humanity.
